Join us for “A Duty of Justice” on March 23 in NYC
UPDATE: Listen to audio of Karen Gargamelli-McCreight’s speech during the panel discussion:
At the end of the global Synod on Youth, the Faith Life, and Vocations in October, the Catholic bishops who gathered issued a document with some of the Church’s strongest language yet about the inclusion of women in its all-male decision-making structures. It called the matter a “duty of justice” that requires a “courageous cultural conversion.”
“The absence of women’s voices and points of view impoverishes discussion and the path of the church, subtracting a precious contribution from discernment,” it states. “The synod recommends making everyone more aware of the urgency of an inescapable change.” (NCR)
What does a “duty of justice” mean from a theological, legal, feminist, and historical perspectives? How do we take seriously the call for a “courageous cultural conversion?”
Join us on March 23 at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Village in New York City for a conversation with:
Youth Synod participant, Yadira Vieyra; Jesuitical Podcast co-host and Associate editor of America, Olga Marina Segura; PhD candidate and Senior Teaching Fellow in Fordham University’s Department of Theology, Mary Kate Holman; and co-founder of Benincasa Community and Catholic Worker in NY, Karen Gargamelli-McCreight.
Reception to follow.
