WOC Granted Consultative Status at the United Nations

WOC Granted Consultative Status at the United Nations

We are pleased to announce today that for the first time the Women’s Ordination Conference has been granted consultative status to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

We spent several years sharing our work and mission with committees of the United Nations as part of their extensive application process, and consider this decision a very significant achievement for WOC.

Having consultative status will be essential in our advocacy for women’s equality, as it offers us a platform to influence decision-makers at the highest levels by delivering statements, participating in negotiations and meetings, and holding side events at the UN, such as at the Commission on the Status of Women meetings.

We will have new opportunities to engage with global faith-based organizations working for women’s rights, and continue our witness as Catholics who uphold the values of social justice, radical inclusion and feminist theology for a more just Church and world.
