Job Description
Position Title: Development Manager
Reports to: Executive Director
The Women’s Ordination Conference (WOC) seeks a Development Manager to design and implement a comprehensive development strategy to uphold our mission, increase support, and position us for significant growth.
Founded in 1975, the Women’s Ordination Conference is the oldest and largest organization working to ordain women as deacons, priests, and bishops into an inclusive and accountable Roman Catholic Church. A feminist voice for women in the Roman Catholic Church, WOC is a grassroots-driven movement that promotes activism, dialogue, and prayerful witness to call for women’s full equality in the Church.

The Development Manager will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors and members, identifying and pursuing new funding sources, and shaping fundraising campaigns. The Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Director to set and achieve development goals. This position will begin in July 2024.
Hours: 20-25 hours per week (non-exempt)
Hourly Wage: $27/hour or commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that includes a framework for membership, major gifts, planned giving, grants, corporate giving and events.
- Conduct prospect research to identify new sources of funding and develop strategies for solicitation.
- Develop strategic communications, marketing materials, and appeals in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and grant applications for foundations and grant opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director in developing strategic communications, marketing materials, and appeals to ensure consistent messaging.
- Monitor fundraising progress and provide regular updates to the Executive Director.
- Manage the timely acknowledgement of gifts and assure that all types of donations are properly documented;
- Ensure data integrity through accurate data entry and ongoing clean-up efforts;
- Coordinate the production and distribution of recurring appeals and stewardship materials;
- Assist with the writing and editing of appeals, acknowledgements, donor news, reports, and proposals;
- Process incoming and outgoing mail and ensure smooth operations of WOC’s office.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, or a related field; or equivalent work experience with a proven track record.
- Experience with CRMs.
- At least 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a track record of success in sponsorships, major gifts, grants, or event fundraising.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to create messaging that offers a compelling case for support.
- Knowledge of fundraising best practices, including moves management, donor stewardship, and prospect research.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines.
Location:
While WOC offers flexible and remote scheduling options, the position is based in Washington, D.C. and the Development Manager must be in the metro-DC area to complete their duties.
