WOC returning to Rome in October for the final session of the Synod on Synodality

WOC will be in Rome again for the final session of the Synod on Synodality this October—and we’ve got schemes and dreams aplenty!

We have been planning behind the scenes to ensure *our* voices are heard and hold the Vatican accountable to the inclusive, courageous vision of the synod laid forth from the beginning.

While many have attempted to silence the conversation on women’s ordination, dismiss our work as “lobbying,” or relegate the global discernment into the shadows of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, we are determined to be visible, creative, and bold. There is just too much at stake.

Truly, this is a crucial moment in the synodal path and in the life of the church. Will church leaders turn their backs on the People of God, or will they make way for the movements of the Spirit and follow her lead to a more just church? We pray our presence will help illuminate the path toward a new day.

Here is a preview of what we’re planning:

On the eve of the synod, which just happens to be the feast of St. Therese of Lisieux, we will gather in vigil at the Basilica of St. Praxedes in Rome. Through prayer, testimony, and song, we will honor the baptismal equality of all people with the theme: “Same Baptism, Same Spirit, Same Calling.” The vigil will be live-streamed worldwide on our YouTube channel, October 1st at 11 a.m. ET (5pm Rome).

As the synod opens we will witness with Women’s Ordination Worldwide through a creative and visible action. Stay tuned for more details on this!

And then on Friday, October 4th we will walk with our international partners toward the synod hall with the message: “Why not me?”, inspired by the Comite de la Jupe. We invite you to join us in the global action through local witnesses, social media, and prayer. Please fill out this form for more information.

And every day throughout the synod we will gather in vigil outside St. Peter’s Square with baptismal candles. We will pray that the church recognizes and acts upon the truth that the baptismal equality of all believers means that God can and does call people of all genders to ordained ministry.
