Program Associate Katie Lacz interviewed on Dan MacDonald Show
“I’ll just get your reaction first. The decision made by Pope Francis, are you happy with the decision? Is it a start or not enough?“
“You know, it’s a little bit of both. It’s kind of a mixed reaction. It’s one of these things where it is and isn’t a change. It’s reflecting what’s happening in a lot of places. I also grew up Catholic, and I was an altar server and a lector when I was younger. And I know the reaction from a lot of people has been, ‘Wait, this isn’t already what the law is?’ But what it has done, it has made official the Church teaching saying that both men and women can officially take on these roles in the liturgy. And so up until yesterday, an individual bishop who thought that it was inappropriate for women to be lectors or for girls to be altar servers could restrict them from that. But now, it’s going to be a lot harder to do so because it’s in our canon law that men and women can take on those roles.”
