She Went Up in A Flame: A Virtual Pentecost Retreat with WOC
Please join us for our next virtual retreat: “She Went Up in a Flame: A Pentecost Retreat,” on May 14-16, 2021.
In this retreat, we will explore the Pentecost story and what it means for women to act as “prophetic flames,” bearing the Spirit’s fire of justice to a world and a Church sorely in need of it.
The title of our retreat references the non-canonical book of the Acts of Philip, in which Mary Magdalene is protected by fire when she is attacked by townspeople for preaching and traveling with men who were not her relatives. It is our hope that this retreat will create some anticipatory “sparks” to carry forward into the celebration of Pentecost Sunday, a week later.
The retreat will combine online gatherings with pre-recorded offerings for reflection that fit into your life and schedule. To participate, you will need to be able to access Zoom on your computer or via phone. The retreat will be co-facilitated by Molleen Dupree-Dominguez, writer, teacher, and spiritual director; and Jaclyn Newns, artist and spiritual director.
The schedule for the retreat is as follows:
Friday, May 14, 7 p.m. EDT: Informal meet-and-greet
Saturday, May 15, 1-4 p.m. EDT: Facilitated retreat session
Sunday, May 16, 11 a.m. EDT: Closing liturgy
There will also be opportunities to sign up for spiritual direction during the weekend.
The retreat is free for current Women’s Ordination Conference members, and we invite non-members who want to participate to begin their membership with a gift of $45 (regular membership) or $25 (student/justice membership). The registration link below allows for new and current members to register.
If you are unsure about whether you are a current member of WOC, please contact Kate instead of using the registration link. Financial assistance is available for those who cannot afford a membership at this time.
Please register for the retreat using the button below by May 11.
